In my book GodSpace I wrote that Jesus spent more time forming community than he did in ministry and I was reminded of that this week as we had the opportunity to enjoy many different types of community which have all made this a very busy but enjoyable week. Lent is not the only rhythm […]
If you are looking for a good film to discuss duing Lent try Chocolat – seems quite in keeping with my aversion to the idea of giving up chocolate for Lent.
Here is a great quote about Ash Wedneday from Lauren Winner’s Girl Meets God. The imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday is nothing if not bold. … a dark and undeniable slash across your forehead, a bold proclamation of death and resurrection all at once. You forget that it is on your forehead and you […]
Lent does not begin until next Wednesday but I feel that I have been living in the presence of it for the last month as I have developed the materials that we are making available through Mustard Seed Associates. As I worked on the booklet I found myself becoming more and more angry at the […]
As we move towards Lent, God invites into a journey of discovery, a journey beyond the Cross into a new world of love and compassion. As you watch this video consider – what is the journey God is asking yo t
Last week it snowed in Seattle almost bringing the city to a standstill. Schools closed, people stayed home from work and Greenlake almost froze over. For many of us it was a great excuse to slow down the pace of our lives for a few days and enjoy the simple things of life. Most evenings […]
I just found this great quote from Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey: A Daybook of Wisdom and Faith. I think that it is the best definition of discipline that I have ever heard. Rather than emphacizing the rigours of repetitive action that many of us struggle with it focuses on the result – […]
Tom & I just returned from Urbana – the huge IVCF missions conference that was just held in St Louis. It was quite an experience to worship together with 22,000 others in a huge stadium but what I particularly enjoyed was the opportunity to get together with friends we have not seen for a long […]
Now that Christmas Day is over many of us feel let down because the day we have been anticipating for so long is over. The malls strip their elaborate decorations and junk their remaining Christmas stocks with huge 50-70% off sales. The Christmas wreaths and trees are thrown out for the garbage collectors and our […]

It has been snowing in Seattle over the last few days. Not quite what we expect in this part of the world. What has fascinated me is to see how the world around us has slowed down in response to the weather. Schools and businesses were closed and the malls were not swamped by the […]
This week I have been reflecting a lot on what it means to be filled with the Spirit. As a young Christian (more years ago than I care to remember) I was involved in the charismatic movement in Australia and back then thought that being filled with the spirit meant to have an experience of […]
Last Saturday we spent a couple of hours as a household out in the garden. It wasn’t the best day for it – though many would say it was pretty typical of Seattle – not too cold, rainy and definitely soggy. The good thing was that the rain had loosened up all the weeds and […]
by Christine Sine — We are moving into the busiest time of the year, and in a world that seems to grow faster and busier by the day perhaps like me you feel that is not good news for any of us. It seems the shops are full of Christmas decorations and toys earlier than ever […]
