I am not sure how it happened but the video that I uploaded the first week of lent for people to use as a tool for meditation seems to have disappeared. I love computers except when they drive me crazy. So here so here is the video again. For those that may be looking at […]
I just received an email from a shopping outlet headed “St Patrick did you a favour”. It then went on to describe how I could enjoy St Patrick’s day luck by shopping their sale. How sad when this is what St Patrick has come to mean for many people in our culture. For others it […]
Here finally is the video that I intended to upload at the beginning of the week. I have really struggled to put it together, partly because the issue of poverty is so close to my heart. Isaiah 58 is my life scripture and reading through it again this week has brought back many memories for […]
Yesterday I did something that a couple of years ago would have seemed idiotic to me – I found myself meditating while rubbingg a pebble in my hand. While I was having my morning devotions I had felt God nudge me to pick up one of the pebbles I gathered when Tom & I visited […]
I had planned to produce another video for meditation this week (and still might before the end of the week) but as I looked through my photos I was so impacted by this painting I photographed in the Bible Chapel Sheffield Tasmania that I decided instead to use it as a tool for meditation. Perhaps […]
Last night I was watching a new Koolaid ad. Now I am not a Koolaid fan even at the best of times but this new ad for individual servings of Koolaid really impacted me. Now don’t get me wrong. I am not going to go out and buy some Koolaid in fact quite the reverse. […]
In my book GodSpace I wrote that Jesus spent more time forming community than he did in ministry and I was reminded of that this week as we had the opportunity to enjoy many different types of community which have all made this a very busy but enjoyable week. Lent is not the only rhythm […]
If you are looking for a good film to discuss duing Lent try Chocolat – seems quite in keeping with my aversion to the idea of giving up chocolate for Lent.
Here is a great quote about Ash Wedneday from Lauren Winner’s Girl Meets God. The imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday is nothing if not bold. … a dark and undeniable slash across your forehead, a bold proclamation of death and resurrection all at once. You forget that it is on your forehead and you […]
Lent does not begin until next Wednesday but I feel that I have been living in the presence of it for the last month as I have developed the materials that we are making available through Mustard Seed Associates. As I worked on the booklet I found myself becoming more and more angry at the […]
As we move towards Lent, God invites into a journey of discovery, a journey beyond the Cross into a new world of love and compassion. As you watch this video consider – what is the journey God is asking yo t
Last week it snowed in Seattle almost bringing the city to a standstill. Schools closed, people stayed home from work and Greenlake almost froze over. For many of us it was a great excuse to slow down the pace of our lives for a few days and enjoy the simple things of life. Most evenings […]
I just found this great quote from Henri Nouwen in Bread for the Journey: A Daybook of Wisdom and Faith. I think that it is the best definition of discipline that I have ever heard. Rather than emphacizing the rigours of repetitive action that many of us struggle with it focuses on the result – […]
Tom & I just returned from Urbana – the huge IVCF missions conference that was just held in St Louis. It was quite an experience to worship together with 22,000 others in a huge stadium but what I particularly enjoyed was the opportunity to get together with friends we have not seen for a long […]
