Friday is International Day for Peace so I thought that this video would be an appropriate offering for the week. The chorus for the song was written by a group of Mennonite youth workers at a course we conducted in Winnipeg some years ago. The verses came from the poem I wrote on Shalom that […]
Recently I was asked what I do with my time. I was not sure if the person was getting at me because I had been talking about processing apples or if they really wanted to know. However it started me thinking – how do I prioritize my time and how do I find time for […]
Now this is something we should all me concerned about. The gap between the wealthy and the absurdly wealthy is widening. How we can help the merely rich catch up. In The Know: Are America’s Rich Falling Behind The Super-Rich?
Grist e-zine just highlighted the 15 greenest universities and colleges in the world. Unfortunately none of them are Christian colleges or universities. Obviously we need to do a better job of encouraging teaching institutions that are Christian based to care for their environment too. Actually I do know some that are concerned about this issue. […]
I wrote this poem a few years ago as a reflection on God’s desire to see all things made new – I come back to it frequently when I am struggling to understand what God is doing in our world Rejoice forever in what I will do Earth and heaven are being made new No […]
This last week has had me on a roller coaster of emotion – of celebration and heartache. We began the week with a beautiful celebration for Catie Rosario Kilmer who started home schooling this week. All of us at the Mustard Seed House are looking forward to helping her parents with her instruction in everything […]
My good friend and colleague Eliacin Rosario Cruz just informed me that Persepolis will soon be out at an animated film. Check out the trailer on his blog
This morning’s psalm was Psalm 31, one of my favourites. Thirty years ago when I lived in New Zealand I had a leather Bible cover made that I still use for my bible. It has the words “I trust in you, Lord; I say your are my God. My times are in your hands. ” […]
Well I never thought that I would confess to reading graphic books. It reminds me of my childhood when we visited my relatives. I would sneak off with my cousin’s comic collection and read through all the latest offerings in an afternoon. Now suddenly comics or graphic books as they are now called are in […]
This last Saturday was garden day at the Mustard Seed House. The trouble is that now we need to process 150 lb of apples so we are furiously drying and freezing. This is providing some wonderful times of fellowship for Ricci & Anneke and I and is a great learning experience for Catie who has […]
On Sunday Carla Pryne was away and Rev Ralph Carskadden preached a very powerful and compelling sermon about the upside down values of God’s kingdom. Here is a portion of that sermon I thought you might find interesting. When gazing at the splendid Madonna of the Magnificat by Botticelli, contemporaries of the artist would have […]
Each month one of my important responsibilities is to produce the Seed Sampler – MSA’s monthly e-zine. It is always a wonderful feeling to send it out to our readers at the end of the month. I thought that you might be interested in the most recent issue which came out on Friday. It is […]
Last week I was sent a book by Glenn Packiam entitled Butterfly in Brazil. The premise of the book is that small changes in the way we act can have major impact in the world and in the lives of others. As he points out most of us don’t believe that small change can make […]
Well like many of you I have succumbed and become a member of Facebook. I have enjoyed connecting to groups as divergent as Make Poverty History, and Celtic Christianity and am amazed at how many of my friends of all ages are already a part of this social network. I have realized that this is […]
